Fairfield Park has some great routes for running, strolling or pedalling alongside both the Yarra River and Merri Creek. You can also rent skiffs, canoes and kayaks from the Boathouse for some of the very best fun and exercise over water. It's close to the urban sprawl, but has the feeling of being deep in the bush. The Main Yarra Trail runs right through here, as well as the River Circuit Trail, which you can easily connect as a medium-sized loop. There is a little elevation to get your heart beating at just the right rate, but the views along the river are fantastic.
On the 28th of May, avid type 1's will be meeting at 9.30 am (SHARP!) in the car park just off Heidelberg Road for the latest installment of the hugely popular HypoActive Fun Run/Walk/Ride. As always, you're welcome however far you want to run, ride or walk. Just meet up with other type 1's and do your thing until it's time to refuel at the superbly picturesque Fairfield Park Boathouse around 10.30 am.
The old heritage Boathouse is the venue for post-exercise refreshment. You're welcome here, whether you've exercised or not. Why not come along to chat with your pancreatically challenged peers about taking the big steps to getting active. And at the same time you can tuck into a very hearty breakfast. The French toast with poached strawberries, vanilla bean yoghurt and honey looks good to me.
If you're planning on coming along or want to know more, please get in touch with organiser John Thompson.
